Fanfare for Horn, Tuba and Piano (2017) was commissioned by the Eastern Standard Trio, and they have championed the work in numerous concerts. Propelled by an active and substantial piano part, the music is optimistic and celebratory. The horn and tuba—instruments that share many qualities—alternate between playing passages in rhythmic unison and more conversational, contrapuntal writing. True to its title, the piece is well-suited as a concert opener.
