The Vigor of Hope was composed for a commission from the Portland Youth Philharmonic under the direction of David Hattner, and given a streaming, remote premiere on April 10, 2021. In these challenging times many people have suffered great hardships. I wanted to put forth music that celebrates the strength and resiliency I see all around me during the pandemic. Especially, as it was composed for young musicians, the piece is intended to affirm the vitality of young people, and encourage them to keep their hopes high for brighter days ahead.
